Fruit Jack-O-Lantern (Tutorial)

I know I've already mentioned this, but I kind of LOVE Halloween. I will be making a Halloween themed dinner before we go trick or treating. One of the things I pre-made, is Fruit Jack-o-lanterns. They are adorable, healthy, and so easy to make!

You've Been Boo-ed!

A few days ago, I discovered Boo-ing. I was very excited because I had seen the ghost signs in a few windows last Halloween while trick or treating and wondered what they were. Last night, The Princess and I started our own Boo, a fun new Halloween tradition for our family! Hope it spreads like crazy!

Oh, you don't know what boo-ing is? Well, let me explain...

Halloween Spooktacular!

Every year, for the last 3 years, we have hosted a Halloween Spooktacular aka costume party for all of the Princess' friends. It's always a blast, but I somehow forget every year how much work it is. This year, I kept it fairly simple and tried to keep the cost down. Hope to give you ideas for your Halloween Party!

30 before 30

This last March, I turned 25. It really got me thinking. It's kind of crazy to think that in just 5 years I will be 30. I know that 30 isn’t even close to being old, but it’s a milestone for sure. It made me think about all of the things I have always wanted to do and never gotten around to. I have heard of people doing a 30 before 30 list (I’m sure many bloggers have done them) and I thought why not? I’ve got goals, why not have a list that helps me stick to them? Maybe my list is a bit ambitious (my fiance thinks so... )  and as a mother it's a little weird to have a list all about what I want, but I think it will be good for me. Hopefully I can complete it.
Here it is…

1.      Finish my Bachelor’s degree

2.      Run a marathon

3.      Learn to sew and make something for my daughter to wear

4.      Take a photography class

5.      Learn to drive stick shift

6.      Learn to parallel park

7.      Swim with dolphins

8.      Grow my hair out and donate to Locks of Love

9.      Write a book (doesn’t have to get published)

10.   Read the Bible cover to cover

11.   Visit New York

12.   Volunteer at a soup kitchen

13.   Take a road trip

14.   Print my digital photos and put them in albums

15.   Perform in a play

16.   Try snowboarding

17.   Go to Disneyworld

18.   Participate in a Flash Mob

19.   Go to Vegas

20.   Go scuba diving

21.   Host a fancy dinner party and serve at least 5 courses

22.   Go wine tasting

23.   Get to my goal weight by living a healthier lifestyle (no fad diets!)

24.   Give my house an organization makeover

25.   Learn to play a song on the guitar

26.   Grow a small veggie garden in the backyard

27.   Take swing dance lessons

28.   Pay it forward Project

29.   Meet my half siblings

30.   Take an international trip

If you want to do a list, it really doesn’t matter how old you are. You can do a 40 before 40 or a 50 before 50. I think it’s a great idea to get some goals in writing and start completing them. If you decide to do a list of your own, post a link in the comments. I’d love to support as you complete your list!

Halloween Trick or Treat Ghost Decoration (tutorial)

It's that spooky time of year again! One of my favorite decorations that I have out this year is my Trick or Treat Ghosts. When I was a little girl, my aunt made a couple of these, and this year I decided to give it a try. Here's how you can make your own...

The invisibility setting on your car must not be working...

Today, I was going about my own business driving The Princess home from school. We stopped at a light and I look over and see a woman flossing her teeth. Ewww! Maybe I'm alone on this, but I was pretty grossed out. Sometimes I wonder if people believe that they are invisible when they get in the car.  I've got news lady, I can see you flossing your lunch out of your teeth!

The sad part is that it isn't even the grossest thing I've ever witnessed someone doing in their car. So here for you, I have prepared a list of the 5 grossest things I have witnessed people doing in their car (We'll put flossing at number 6):

Baked Teriyaki Chicken Recipe

Last night I made teriyaki chicken for the first time in a while. It was amazing and I wondered why I hadn't made it in so long. The princess said, "You should make this every day!". When your child says something like that, there is only one thing to do... blog about it!

This is such an easy recipe! I got this recipe from my Grandma years ago. I do it from memory, so I'm not sure if I've changed a couple things from hers, but it tastes the same and that is all that matters to me. :)

Shame on me!

A little late, but here I am joining in on the fun with the mom shaming photos.
True Story

The Princess found my sign and was appalled at the thought of me doing such a thing. When I showed her the photo, she laughed.
She came up with this idea.... She thinks she's pretty funny. :)
Not so true...

I am_______. Who are you?

I found this writing prompt through You Know It Happens At Your House Too who challenged her followers to try it. She found i through According to Mags, who found it somewhere else and now I keep seeing all of my favorite blogs posting it. I loved it when I read it, but I honestly just didn't think I'd be able to think of anything. But, a little voice in my head keeps saying, "Just do it!" So here it goes...

The rules:
Set a timer for 5 minutes. Write using the I am________ prompt. Do not Edit or proof read. Don't think about it. Just write until the timer goes off.

I am a mother to a beautiful 7 year old girl. She's a firecracker and can be a handful at times, but I do my best and I think I have done pretty good so far.

I Love Someone With Autism

This is a childhood photo of my little cousin Moose (his nickname). He's absolutely adorable! Aside from an extra dash of cuteness, he looks like any other sweet baby boy. But there is something that you can't tell just by looking at this sweet baby boy. Moose was diagnosed with Autism when he was 3 and a half years old.
Here is a definition I that found on an online dictionary:

  1. A mental condition, present from early childhood, characterized by great difficulty in communicating and forming relationships, and in other people and in using language and abstract concepts.

What does that even mean?

If I didn't know what autism was and read that definition, I probably wouldn't get it. So I am going to explain it to you in a way that you might better understand:
Moose's Graduation Photo
Autism usually develops before the age of 3. It ranges from mild social impairments to a severe disability requiring lifelong parental, school and societal support. Moose has severe autism. He is now 22 years old. He can't speak. He can't prepare meals, use the restroom without assistance, or even shower himself.

Back when Moose was diagnosed, doctors didn't know much about autism. It was a nightmare for my aunt and uncle. They took Moose to different specialists, but no one wanted to label him or help. They began taking Moose to specialists at 18 months. The pediatrician told her that there was nothing wrong with him and that boys were just slower than girls. Over the course of a year and a half my aunt had to take Moose to 2 Speech specialists, 2 Occupational specialists, 3 Psych specialists, 1 Neuro specialist, and OC Mental Health Regional Center who referred her to BJ Freeeman at UCLA who finally diagnosed Moose with autism.  There was one therapist who asked my aunt to video tape Moose for a week. When she returned for a follow up he told her, "sorry, I didn't have a chance to watch it". Then he wrote a report containing only what my aunt had told him and had the audacity to bill her $200. When she told me this story, she said that she felt violated and alone.  I can't even begin to imagine what she went through. She really is my inspiration for being so strong through it all.
